WANITA: Female Artivism – Jakarta!


The female DIY arts ‘n’ crafts community of Jakarta is only a few years young, but growing
rapidly. Through fanzines, Etsy and vibrant DIY communities. Jakarta’s female artists are
embracing a new era of creative expression. Featuring artists Marishka Soekarna, Ayu Dila Martinaand Ika Vantiani.

Presented as part of our Collaborate Asia program, join us as we celebrate, learn and collaborate with some of Jakarta’s most interesting and experimental craftivists!

WANITA: Female Artivism – Jakarta! Exhibition

Artists Marishka Soekarna, Ayu Dila Martina and Ika Vantiani have been at the forefront of a new movement in DIY arts ‘n’ crafts in Jakarta, Indonesia. Leaders of brave experimentation and self-created enterprise. Fearless adventurers in painting, fashion, collage, zines, print-making, punk bands and video, these women are paving a new territory for female artists in Indonesia.

An exhibition of works will feature music video clips, crafts, installations and illustration by female contemporary artists of Jakarta. Co-curated by contemporary arts collective Ruangrupa, Jakarta.

WANITA: Female Artivism – Jakarta! Workshop

In Bahasa Indonesia, there are several words to describe ‘women’ such as ‘wanita’ and
‘perempuan’. What words resonate for you in your family and your culture?

Marishka SoekarnaAyu Dila Marti and Ika Vantiani, cutting-edge female DIY artists from Jakarta will lead a craft and collage workshop exploring the language surrounding female identity today. People of all genders welcomed!

What’s the difference between an artist, a curator, an exhibition manager and an arts
educator? Jakarta-based arts professionals, Marishka Soekarna and Ika Vantiani share their experiences of navigating the burgeoning artistic communities in Indonesia’s bustling capital!
